Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.

A hero barely holding on…

Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.

The woman who won’t let him fall…

Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

In ebook and soon in print!

Happy Waitangi Day!

Today is Waitangi Day. I hope everyone celebrated appropriately. I really have no idea what Waitangi Day is about, but it became a newsroom custom to celebrate it back in the late 1990s when I was working at Colorado Daily. Terje Langeland, probably the best reporter I've ever had the honor to work with, started it all by wishing us all a Happy Waitangi Day one year. None of us knew WTF he was talking about, but there it was on our calendar: Waitangi Day.

As the years passed, we celebrated it with cards and other goofy activities, such that it became an excuse to act silly at work. Except that Terje (who's 6-foot-7 and Norwegian) is now far away in Japan, and I'm not longer with that particular group of reporters. Our little newroom culture has faded into the past. Terje and I still send each other "Happy Waitangi Day" emails, but it's not the same.

I spent today feeling awful and working on my cover story about Molly Ivins. I consider it nothing short of a major feat that I finished it. I got maybe three hours of sleep last night. My face was throbbing from this damned sinus infection, and the pain was truly on the brink of intolerable. (Thanks to Aimee for staying up with me while I held frozen broccoli on my face. Mwah!) I took a bag of frozen peas to work and held it on my face while I tryped.

No fiction today, though I have pondered this next scene in the book. It's a sex scene. Marc and Sophie finally, FINALLY, getting together. The set-up hasn't quite come to me, probably because my brain is infected, too. LOL! Maybe when I get some sleep and these antibiotics kick in I'll feel better.

I just voted in the HUGHEYS, and in the process of choosing my Best of for 2006 realized I'd only read a handful of books last year. D'oh! That's not good. I need to make more time for reading this year.

My son, Ben, made a wonderful chicken soup for dinner to try and pamper his sick mom, and now I'm headed to bed...

G'night.

Well, I have no idea what Waitangi Day is either. Someone should Google it LOL!

Sounds like a fun thing to do, celebrating God knows what with humor & cards. At least you acknowledged that there was something to acknowledge LOL!
6'7" and acting silly sounds weird LOL Sounds more like a battle axe should be swinging or something with size like that eh?

I was really hoping you would feel better today :( But I am very happy that the cold packs are helping. Hang in there, the antibiotics should be working at least a little by tomorrow. Almost there chica.

I'm reeeeeeally looking forward to Sopie & Marc doing the "nasty", after the tesion they have built up, it should really be HOT!
But that's ok, lets just say I'm prepared LOL! Goooooooo MARC!
LMAO!
I just did my Hughie thing too, and I was shocked too. Not by the quantity I read, but the QUALITY. I caught myself staring at the piles & piles I read in '06 and then looking at the skinny list I nominated....

Geve Ben a hug for me for taking care of his momma!
HUGZ!

Okay, I couldn't stand it LMAO!

Here is a brief description of Waitangi Day LOL!

Waitangi Day is the national day of New Zealand. It is a public holiday held each year on February 6 to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand's founding document, on that date in 1840.

Just in case anyone wondered.... *snort*

Hope you are well soon PC. ((HUGS)) to you and Ben.

Waitangi Day is some sort of New Zealand thing. Oops I just read the rest and saw Aimees googling result. Well done Aimee. Personally I like your version better. Nothing like an act nutty at work day and why not on Waitangi Day.

Hope the antibiotics kick in soon and you start to feel better. Then you can get your thinker into hottie hot mode and write that scene.

My hughie voting was queer too. I realised that there were lots I read, but some stood out more than others and seemed to garner most of the votes. Oh and I seem to be incapable of remembering which books go in which year. Head full of cotton wool lately. I hate the heat.

OMG! VIC! God, I miss you!!! I hope you're doing well. I really have missed you so very much. (((HUGS)))

Aha! The secrets of Waitangi Day revealed! Well, I have no trouble celebrating the creation of New Zealand -- cool country where they filmed LORD OF THE RINGS. LOL!

Thanks for the Google research, Aimee. Too funny!

But, I'm thinking Chez is right -- there really does need to be a day dedicated to misbehaving at work.

Aimee, you'd have to meet Terje. Yeah, he's pure Viking, descended from a Viking king, actually, truly. But he's also just a big sweetheart. He'd gag if he read this, though. LOL!

And, thanks. I'll pass your hug along. He really was an angel. I was SO dragging, and he handled everything.

I'll let Marc know you're cheering for him. I think he's been patient enough, really.

Thanks for the get well wishes, everyone. God knows I need them. Makes me feel like a big baby, but I've never been into pain. I actually had a fever when I got home from work. Ug.

Chez, it's so funny to read about the heat when there are five feet of snow on my lawn. But I know what you mean about head full of cotton. Heat can make a peron absolutely lethargic.

Funny about the HUGHEY votes -- quality vs. quantiy and such. Let's hope 2007 is a better year. Except -- D'oh! -- I don't have any books out in 2007, so let's hope it's not too much of a better year. LOL!

Pamela,

I'm glad you are having a little comic relief. You need to have some mind down time to get well, write and laugh!!

I'm cheering for the antibiotics to kick in real quick so the pain will lessen fast. Face pain is unbearable!

Ben is such a sweetheart to help his mom. You have raised both the boys right! Is he still making dinner for his sweety on Valentine's Day?

Hey, I'm all for characters in the books to finally cut the tension and just do it. I catch myself talking to the characters as if they are in the room with me. That's when you know you have an excellent writer!

My Hughie list was little too. Must just be that year.

Hugs
Debbie H

Hmm, never heard of Waitangi Day either, my dear, so thanks Aims for getting the info. Sorry to hear your face is still throbbing. I get those damned things often too and it sucks!! I hope you start to feel better soon!! That's sweet that Ben made chicken soup for you. What a cutie!! MWAHHHHHHH!!!!!

I think in honor of Waitangi Day next year, you should dress as a Maori warrior. Or go visit New Zealand. Yeah, opt for that last option. Sounds good to me.

PC, Hope you're feeling better soon. Just to brighten your day, I found the following information; according to http://www.brownielocks.com/month2.html, there is a "Fun at Work Day" on January 26. Looks like we just missed it. I think we should celebrate this holiday a little late, like maybe tomorrow???
Have a great day!

Debbie H — Thanks for your good wishes. I think the antibiotics are starting to work. I feel noticeably less horrid today. A very good thing!

And, yes, Ben is such a sweetheart. He is, indeed, making dinner for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day and serenading her with "their song," which he has learned to play on his guitar. Ah, young love.

Rosie — Sorry to hear you get these so often! That's rotten. I hope you're feeling loads better today. Who invented sinuses anyway?

Bonnie — LOL! I like the idea of being a Maori warrior. I'll get a bunch of tattoos, practice chanting hakas, and go to work like that.

Debbie D — What a cool website! Who knew there were so many little holidays. Yes, it seems we missed that one, but as you say, we can always celebrate it a bit late...
