Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.

A hero barely holding on…

Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.

The woman who won’t let him fall…

Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

In ebook and soon in print!

The home stretch on Unlawful Contact

Morgan MacKinnon might wear leather breeches and have longer hair, but when he's bound in Fort Carillon's guardhouse, he'll look something like this...

Well, after that last post my life devolved into a nonstop migraine. After five days, I was about ready to lop my head off with a sword. "There can be only one!" (I actually said this outloud while contemplating the benefits of being headless.)

I got a very, very painful massage yesterday and feel sore but better today.

Somehow I managed to get Chapter 29 done last weekend. And now I'm starting Chapter 30. This book, unlike all of my others, will have 31 chapters plus an epilogue. So I'm officially in the homestretch. Chapter 30 contains the last part of the climax — that moment when all seems truly lost. Then Chapter 31 will take us into denouement and resolution. And the real payoff comes in the epilogue.

It's probably going to be the longest book I've written — about 430 pages. I'm hoping and praying my editor won't make me cut. We'll see... Keep your fingers crossed!

Tonight is prom. I'll have pictures of my handsome son and his lovely date soon. They're heading to prom with all of their friends in a Humvee stretch limo. Eighteen kids in one vehicle. At least they'll be safe.

I'm reading Surrender right now trying to get my mind moving back toward Fort Elizabeth and those sexy MacKinnon brothers. I have to say, I'm actually enjoying the story. I haven't really been able to open the book since it came out, so this is very strange. It's almost like reading someone else's book. Every once in a while, I find myself thinking, "I wrote this?"

I'm thinking it's time for an excerpt... But I'll save that for tomorrow. Any requests?

I am so sorry you had your migraines again. It really puts a strain on your writing, I know. Hang in there. We love you and your writing and will patiently (yeah right, LOL) wait for it.

Morgan is going to hang in the gardhouse? I feel the pain in my stomach already. The agony!

I'm sorry about your killer migraine. No fun at all!
And, YUMMY Mr. Morgan look alike....mmmm.....
We went out for dinner the other night and realized it was prom. It was like watching a fashion show, so fun! *aw the memories* LOL...although we did NOT arrive in a stretch Hummvie. NICE!

Oh My!! *fanning self* What a great picture to imagine by! And whoo hoo - your thinking back in Colonial Mode again - not that I didn't love Hard Evidence and am most eagerly looking forward to Unlawful Contact, I AM! I AM - but I do so love a Colonial. And it will give me a reason to watch LOTM again *g*
Glad your headache is gone. I can't even imagine having a migraine that long!!
I hope they don't cut out too much from Unlawful Contact! I like books that are a bit longer although I know publishers seem to be going in the opposite direction these days *heavy sigh*

Debbie — thanks for the sympathy. Migraines suck! Mine tend to be related to stress. And, yes, Morgan is going to have a very hard time of it for a while. I should post an excerpt sometime. I have two chapters written, I think.

Ronlyn — Morgan will of course have much longer hair... Fun that you got to watch the prom fashion show with all the glowing young people. I didn't go to prom, so watching Ben enjoy it is as close as I get. I had chicken pox my junior year and was in Europe my senior year. I don't think I really missed it, but it's fun to see what it's like through my kiddo.

Kristie! So wonderful to see you! I know you're waiting for Morgan's story and that you prefer the historicals. I'm really jonesing to write it, I have to say. Old Blind Dogs has a new CD coming out soon — just in time to inspire me. :-)

And I agree about prefering longer novels. I don't feel like I get a full story in 250 to 300 pages. I want PAGES. I want STORY. I want EPIC. I want to feel like I've just been away from the world by the time I finish reading it. As a write, I write long. And slooooooooooow. Yeah, we all know that. LOL!
