Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.

A hero barely holding on…

Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.

The woman who won’t let him fall…

Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

Starred review in Publishers Weekly

Just a quick post to let you know that I just got some really fantastic news! Publishers Weekly, the big publishing trade magazine, gave Untamed a starred review!

Here's what they had to say:

Untamed Pamela Clare. Leisure, $7.99 (368p) ISBN 978-0-8439-5489-0
The captivating sequel to 2006’s Surrender continues the tale of the MacKinnon clan, Scots forced to fight for the British in the 18th-century French and Indian Wars. The French score a major coup when they capture notorious ranger Morgan MacKinnon, best known for destroying an Abenaki village after learning that the tribe’s warriors were scalping women and children. Brigadier de Bourlamaque plans on handing MacKinnon over to the Abenaki, who promise to torture him mercilessly, unless he betrays his comrades. MacKinnon despairs, but Bourlamaque’s ward, Amalie Chauvenet, captures his heart and persuades him to spy for the French against the English. Clare’s detailed attention to the history of alliances forged and battles fought near Fort Ticonderoga adds authenticity, and the characters evolve and change with a realism that readers will love. (Dec.)

I'm so glad that they appreciated the history in the story. I work very hard to weave it into the romance, so this means a lot to me!

I hope everyone is having a great (safe) day.

Congrats Pamela! What a great review - I know I say this each time Untamed is mentioned, but I cannot WAIT to read it!!

Hi, Christie! It's been ages, chick! How are you? And thanks so much for your sweet words. I was very surprised. I didn't know they were reviewing it; they don't review everything. When I got the email from Dorchester I was quite conflummixt! I can't wait for it to come out, either. Seems like a bloody age still, doesn't it?

Hi, Haleigh — I'm so glad you feel that way about the story. I can't wait hear what you think of it. It's been such a long time since I've had a historical novel out -- more than two years. Normally that's a kiss of death in the publishing world, but it doesn't seem to be hurting me. :-)

Thanks, you two!

Like DUH! Awesome review, Pamela. {{{big squeeze, again}}}

Thanks, Ames! I love the cover, too. That's my favorite part of a man's body, really. Nice chests and bellies make me weak-kneed, I must admit.

Christi, dear, thank you so much! You're so sweet! I saw your Facebook comment, too. It made me smile -- and given that I'd just gotten up and didn't want to be awake, that's really saying something. Thank you!

Congrats! Fantastic review!

Thanks, Debbie! When I started writing historical romance, I resolved to put real history in it. So to have them acknowledge that and value it means a lot to me!

Thanks, Lori! I am thrilled. :-)

I'm late, but I'd love to chime in. I love accurate history in my historicals. I like the fact that I can go to a map and look up a place, even take a trip to the place and re-live the story.

Congrats on the stars!

Thanks so much, Debbie! I know you enjoy history a lot. And though I couldn't claim to be 100 percent accurate — really, no one can — I do try my best to not make stupid mistakes and to take not just the events and physical reality of the time period seriously, but also the state of mind that the characters would have in that period. I don't like reading novels where the characters act like they could be my neighbors here in the 21st century. People thought differently back then, and I try as much as I can to make that real, even though I'm a person of this time.

Thanks, Cheryle! I'm really thrilled, of course. My publisher is sending me a copy of the magazine in the mail so I can read it a thousand times and frame it and put it on my wall. :-)

Hi, Stef! I hope you're having a great time avec les parents. I'm so glad you were able to pop in and say hello while out of town. Merci!
