Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.

A hero barely holding on…

Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.

The woman who won’t let him fall…

Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

In ebook and soon in print!

The night you were saved by an I-Team hero

OK, so, I have gotten precisely zero questions for the I-Team heroes. This either means everyone is really busy, or no one has anything to ask Marc, Julian, Reece and Gabe. Given that school has just started, I'm betting it's the former. Believe me, I understand. The stress at the paper was extreme enough today to leave me — a journalism veteran of more than 15 years — ready to scream.

Being a woman, I know that women like to be seduced. They like the mood to be just right. So let me set the stage a bit better...

You're in a strange town (maybe Denver — it's plenty strange) walking down the street at night. From behind you hear approaching footsteps. You look over your shoulder and see two men in hoodies following you down the street.

You walk a bit faster.

So do they.

You turn a corner, hoping they won't follow you, but they do.

They're laughing now, calling out to you, leaving no doubt in your mind that if they get their hands on you, it will become the worst night of your life. Your pulse races. Your mouth goes dry.

You start to run.

They run, too, and they're so much faster than you are.

They're right behind you now, laughing at your fear, and you can hear that they're excited. They're excited at the prospect of hurting you.

A hand grabs the collar of your shirt.

You scream, feel yourself jerked backward, and fall. You know what's going to happen now, and you're at a place so far beyond fear that your mind is nothing but buzzing panic, white noise that races to the frantic rhythm of your heartbeat.

Out of an alley you didn't even notice, a dark figure appears. You can't see his face because he's moving too fast and you're so scared. In a heartbeat, one of the men who was chasing you is on the ground, writhing in pain.

You crawl as fast as you can out of the way and watch as the tall, dark figure takes down your other would-be attacker.

Then the dark figure turns to you, kneels down. "Are you okay?"

His voice is soothing, deep.

You're breathing hard, shaking from head to foot, and it takes you a moment to answer. "Y-yes."

He helps you to stand, and you get your first look at his face. "Let's get you out of here."

Twenty minutes later, you're back at your hotel. He walks you to your room, offers to stay until the police arrive. You're grateful, because the thought of being alone right now is too terrifying. But you're finally in a calm enough frame of mind to thank him, and while you wait for the police, you have a chance to ask him anything you want.

You start with the basics. "Y-you may have saved my life. Wh-what's your name?"

Now... Who is it — Marc, Julian, Reece, or perhaps even Gabe? If you could ask him anything, what would it be?

It's late & all I could think of was, "How did you know I needed you & can you hold me until I stop being so scared?"

It would be Marc for me. After I'd babbled my thanks repeatedly I'd probably want to say...'You handled yourself like you may have done this before...where did you learn to fight like that?

(Real life is sucking right now. Sure could use a Marc to be a hero for me.)

Well, you asked for it! LOL I usually get real chatty after a scare like that.

For Julian

What were you doing in that alley?

Do you always hang around in alleys?

What do you do for a living?

Where did you grow up?

Family? Married? Children?

What were you doing in that alley? (sorry, tend to repeat myself when I'm scared)

I start shaking....."So cold" Hold me?

Why do people have to be that way?

Why did I have to be so stupid? I know better than to walk down a deserted street in the dark. At home ....well, it doesn't matter. Thank you again for saving me.

Whether I asked him to stay or not would depend on how he answered question 5. LOL

LOL! I thought about this, since I'm fresh from reading all 3 books.

How did the reunion with Julian's family in Ireland go? What did he learn about his mother? Did she leave him a journal or letters? What kinds of things did they say? Any insight, clues at all, what his vile father might have said or did to win her heart? She must have been in her early 20's - the most vulnerable age to be lured in by a total jerk.

Ah, Marc, my greeneyed hero.

And, most of my questions would echo Debbie's since I tend to babble like an idiot when I'm coming off an adrenaline rush.
-how did you do that?
-where where you?
-what took you so long?
(I'd be shaking like a leaf too, and tears would be streaming. Not really crying but again coming off the adrenaline)
-tell me something wonderful, something nice and light and happy.

For me, it would be Gabe. I'd probably end up saying something like "I get the feeling you've saved people before. What do you do?" After he told me, and I found out he also climbed mountains for fun, I'd ask him why. And of course, I'd ask if he was married. No? Well, Gabe, I think I'm in shock and it would really help if you held me...

Thanks for the questions, y'all. I'll work them into the interviews.

Hi, Mary — LOL! If he said yes, I would deliberately never stop being scared. :-)

So which hero is it for you?

Hi, Rita — I'm so sorry to hear that real life is the pits for you right now. I wish you had your own personal hero, too. (((Hugs)))

Hi, Debbie — Funny! As for being "stupid," it wasn't your fault. I made you do it. LOL!

Oh, Wendy, I just love those questions. When I read them, I immediately felt so sad for Julian's mother. I can't imagine the pain and horror of having your toddler disappear like that. Talk about heartbreak! Julian will definitely have something to say in response to this.

So it would be Marc for you, too, Ronlyn? I'll make sure he brings a box of tissues or a nice hankie. ;-)

Well, Linda, interesting, because technically Gabe CAN'T be married yet. The book isn't out. So you might just find yourself with some overnight "protection."

Hi Pamela! OH hon first off I'm so sorry I forgot to send my questions do you still want us to do that? Or do you prefer to just answer on here! Great idea with this by the way!

Ok tho I love them all when I read this the first one that popped into my head was Julian!

I saw him the Dark Angel coming to my rescue. I think in this situation I would be pretty much speechless with fear and shock etc. accept to be thanking him profusely. I would ask how he came upon the guys following me and then the attack and what was his name what he did for a living etc. I would definitely be asking if he was married! LOL

Shoot fire meant to say before that I just got crazy busy with stupid RL and forgot to send the questions lol. With school as you said starting and all it's been kinda wild around here.

Hmm, questions, questions, questions. What to ask? Sorry if I haven't put up any questions Pamela. Just strated college 3 weeks ago. So fun(love my major:graphic design) but sooooooo busy. I literally spend like, 29 hrs. on studio work at school every week. Oh well, I guess that's college.

So back to questions. I think I'm gonna reply to your original request.

To Reece:
-Did you even know what you were going in to with Kara? Were you planning that long relationship thing, or just playing along as it goes?
-So Connor's 9 now, are you guys really close? Does he call you dad? That would be nice, if he did. ;D

To Julian:
-What was it like, at first, when all of a sudden this girl appears in your life and changes every perspective of it, when before, it's just, eat, work, sleep?
-How was that visit from Ireland?
-So was it fun feeling your baby's hiccups when she was still in her moms? It sounded funny. ;D

To Mark:
-Did you really think of Sophie when you were in the military and in prison? Was there really no other?
-What did you felt that morning when you left Sophie in her Grandmother's house.
-So, how's Megan and Emily? Is it fun being an uncle/dad?

To all three:
-Do you guys do playdates with each others' kids and with Megan and Will's kids too? ;D

That's all for now. If I think of anything else, I'll let ya' know! ;D

-ronna

oh Pam, you know it's always been Marc for me. I can't tell you why, but there it is.
Although, in this scene Julian runs a close second. ;-)

My first two question is to Reece:
Why was he there? And why did he help me?

Second is for Will:
Would it be alright if I buy him dinner? To thank him for helping me out of a bad situation.

Third is for Marc:
Would he give me his number incase the next time I'm in town we can get together?

Fourth is for Julian:
Would you like a night cap before you leave?

And the last one for all of them:
Now that you've saved me, what will you do with me tonight?

Am so gonna love the answers?

Thanks...

I thought of a question last night, then almost forgot to post it.

For all the guys:
I try to live my live by the creed, "I prefer to regret something I've done, rather than regret something I haven't done." What have you done that you regret the most? And what HAVEN'T you done that you regret the most?

For me it would be Marc (of course LOL) and I would ask him

"Will you teach me to fight? To defend myself if I should ever be in a similar situation?"

(anything that might help me to see him again)

Lucy said...

Julian, of course

And my question would be:
Will you marry me?

lol

J said...

Okay, so I am so behind and am just answering now...

I would have one question for Julian.

"Can I be on top?"

J xx

Hi Pamela, I'm catching up on your blog and saw this. It's definitely Marc for me. And in my world he's obviously single. The first thing I'd want to know is why he was in the alley? Is he familiar with the neighborhood and does he know who those guys were? Marc wants to be a hero, but he also appreciates a woman who can think on her feet. I would definitely then completely melt down so that he would have to hold me in those arms. From there, the whole scene where he takes Sophie back to the Rawlings house works for me.
