NAKED EDGE earns a few honors -- UPDATED

Gosh, that’s pretty! It’s the logo I’m allowed to use because Naked Edge is a finalist for Best Romantic Suspense in the Australian Romance Readers Awards. I was completely blown away. It was early and I hadn't had my coffee, so I sort of stared at the e-mail for a while.

Here's a full list of finalists, and you can see that I’m in very good company.

This news was followed in the evening by word that Naked Edge had won in several categories in RBL Romantica's 13th annual HUGHIE Awards. The categories include:

FAVORITE TITLE — Well, I can't really take credit for that. It’s the name of a climbing route in Eldorado Canyon State Park that I simply stole because Gabe was climbing there when he saw Kat.

FAVORITE HEROINE — I managed to unseat Eve Dallas, who has long held this category, by a single vote. (I have on good authority that Gabe came close to unseating Roarke, as well.) I can't tell you what it means to me to know that others love Kat as much as I do. Writing a Navajo character and making her real, and not an “apple” wasn’t easy, and it was so important to me to do it right. At the same time, she needed to be a character readers could relate to, somehow, despite her different culture. So this tells me I succeeded at that. *sniff*

MOST TOUCHING BOOK — Not to sound silly, but this really touched me. I try to write emotional stories that rip reader’s hearts out and then give them back again. Yes, it is something of a goal of mine to make you cry, I confess.

UPDATE: For some reason, I forgot to list that Naked Edge tied with Guilty Pleasure by Lora Leigh for HOTTEST BOOK. That’s pretty amazing, because I don’t write erotica.

And I know for a fact now that Gabe came within TWO VOTES of unseating long-time RBL Favorite Hero Roarke. (Yes, the Roarke.) And that’s almost as good as actually doing it.

So today a big thank you goes to the Australian Romance Readers Awards, and a HUGH thank you goes out to all the wonderful woman at RBL Romantica.

I hope to catch up on yesterday’s posts shortly. I came home from the paper yesterday feeling almost unnaturally exhausted and just went to bed.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Tuesday!

COMING NEXT: A chat about Hard Evidence (Okay, so it will really be about Julian Darcangelo. I know that. I understand. I get it, really. You’ll give me no choice.)

Congratulations Pamela!
All awards - well deserved!

Congrats, Pamela! For me, Naked Edge is definitely a "most touching book". It's the perfect romance, and I just love stories that make me cry and feel touched.

Wow, Pamela! I loved Naked Edge. Obviously, I'm not alone. It is a great love story and such interesting history and culture.
The Aussies must have found the Native American theme riveting.

OMG, Gabe is soooo much better than Roarke!!! I'd take a sexy, daring rock climber over a metrosexual anyday!

Congrats! well deserved. :)

Wow, Pamela, I hope you're feeling all that contest LURVE!!!! And well deserved! Congratulations! Particular congratulations for the Aussie nomination. I got such a thrill when I saw you on the list! We have great taste down here in the wide brown land ;-)

Congratulations! Well deserved! As for the most touching, I would have to agree. Naked Edge is one book that I am having a hard time going back to more than once. It just tears me up.

Congratulations to you! I loved Naked Edge-in fact it was my intro to your series and I bought up the back list immediately!

Who is Roarke?

Thank you, everyone. I really appreciate your sweet words!

Scorpio, I laughed out loud when I read this at work. I hadn't really thought of Roarke as a metrosexual, but now that you mention it...

He's a pretty rough, tough guy at the same time, however. I have a crush on Roarke myself.

Lisa, Roarke is the hero in J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) ongoing IN DEATH series. There are about a thousand books in it now -- okay, maybe not quite that many -- and the stories are all about Eve Dallas, the heroine, and Roarke. He has no last name. He's Roarke. It's a romantic suspense series set some years in the future (space travel, etc.).

Anna, dear, I would so love to come down there. In fact, I will come down there one of these days. I can't wait to spend more time with you. Last summer was just too fun. It's one of the few things I remember from prior to my surgery. And CONGRATS to you for making that list, as well. My fingers are crossed for you!

Congrats Pamela, well deserved!
You do so much research and go into such extraordinary detail to set the context of your novels, it's only necessary to be acknowledged. Now, being Aussie, I'd like to say, "No worries, it was nothing, you're welcome", but I didn't do anything other than read Naked Edge and love it bahaha :D

Wonderful news! Congratulations on the awards and good luck with the Aussies!

Hola, Timbera — Thank you very much!

Kat H, Doreen, Mary G — Thanks so very much. I'm so glad you liked the story that much. And to think I was afraid it was my very worst...

Congratulations...well deserved, they don't come much better than you. Naked Edge had one of the most suspenseful endings I've ever read. I loved it! I-Team series is the best, no contest!

Congratulations!!! Sorry I'm just catching up with the updates now ... but I'm really happy for you!!! I do enjoy romantic suspense authors and JD Robbs is one of them. So the new about Kat unseating Eve Dallas is just grand!! And I'm glad to hear that Gabe is close to unseating Roarke!!! My friend, Natasha, who is now an avid follower of your books said I must tell you this on behalf of her: "You write very high standard romantic suspense stories and it has set a benchmark for me to compare to other authors that I am exploring these days. Please keep up the great work!" I totally agree with her!!
