Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.
A hero barely holding on…
Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.
The woman who won’t let him fall…
Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

Contest/Excerpt — When Marc meets Julian...
I'll take what she's having.
Unlawful Contact isn't out until April 1 — that's 149 days from today. It would be 148 days from today, but I have a birthday this year. Please don't begrudge me that single day. I like having the occasional birthday.
So, Unlawful Contact will be out on April 1, but to thoroughly enjoy the story one probably ought to have read Hard Evidence. The stories stand alone, of course, but there's this Julian character in Unlawful who plays a pretty significant role. Unless you know him, you won't "get" everything I've written into the story for you to enjoy.
In honor of that — and to get your hormones flowing — I've got a special contest. If you haven't read Hard Evidence, simply post and tell me that you'd like to read it. Yes, you can enter on behalf of romance-reading friends who you believe ought to have read it. I'll pick a winner at random and send that person an autographed copy of the story. If you're new to this blog and have only lurked, welcome and please don't hesitate to post.
For those of you who have read Hard Evidence, I have this contest to offer: Tell me why you liked Julian so much. I'll pick one winner at random and send that person an autographed HARD COVER copy of Hard Evidence.
Now only Aimee is left out because she already has a hard-cover edition. Sorry, Aims, but I guess the consolation is that Julian is yours.
To whet your lust for prose, I offer the following short excerpt from Unlawful Contact:
“You should have come to me with this, Sophie.” Julian stood in the doorway dressed entirely in black—black leather jacket, black turtleneck stretched over Kevlar, black jeans, black boots, black scowl on his face. His gaze passed over her and settled on Hunt, who was already on his feet, weapon pointed straight at Julian’s chest.
“No!” Heart pounding, Sophie jumped up and put herself in the line of fire between them. “Please, don’t do this! Please don’t!”
“Sophie, move!” the two men barked in unison.
“No! I won’t let you shoot each other!”
Julian looked past her. “He’s not going to shoot me.”
“You willing to bet your life on that, cop?” Hunt’s voice was ice cold.
“I already have.”
And then Sophie saw.
Julian wasn’t holding a gun.
“He’s unarmed, Hunt. You can’t—”
“Like hell he is! He’s got a piece in a shoulder holster, and I bet he’s lethal on the draw.”
“If you wanted me dead, Hunter, I’d be dead.” Julian stepped sideways, making himself a target again. “You’re one hell of a shot. Set a new record for your sniper unit, didn’t you? Eighty-five confirmed kills.”
“Eighty-six.” Hunt held the gun steady, his gaze unwavering.
“Yeah, that’s right—eighty-six. Including that Taliban leader you took out from a hillside three-quarters of a mile away. God knows how you were able to adjust for wind speed and bullet drop at that distance. That was one in a million. You’re deadly, Hunter—stone cold.”
----
And the winners are...
Paperback version for a new reader (I drew two instead of one) — Elli and Sara
Hardcover version for an FOP (that's "Friend of Pamela") — Cheryle
The drawing was blind with strips of paper in my son's fedora, and Ben drew the names. I couldn't draw two names for the hardcover version because I only have one to give. There are a few used hardcover editions on Amazon, I think.
Congrats to the winners! Please email me at pamelaclare at earthlink.net (remove spaces, add the correct symbol), and give me your mailing addresses, and I'll get these out to you. Then be sure to pop back in and tell me what you think of Julian. Oh, okay, and of Tessa, too!

OK, I have to admit, a bit sheepishly, that I haven't read Hard Evidence yet. I've been reading all the others first and haven't gotten this one yet. It's actually next on my list. I keep getting so many good reading suggestions from RBL that I can't keep up with my regular favs.
YAY!!! I LOVE it!!
Ok, I'm entering my little (*snort* she's 5'10, you've met me. I tell her she stole all my height) sister, Morgan. She would LOVE it.
Why oh why do I love Julian? Julian is the ultimate good guy, doing what needs to be done in order to get the bad guys. It disgusts him, it horrifies him, but he does it anyway. He's all hard exterior, tough guy but once the shell is cracked he's oh so tender.
Hi
I was told by my good friend Cheryle that I need to enter this contest. I just started reading Extreme exposure and really like it. She told me a little bit about Hard Evidence and said that it has a HOT shower scene in it and that my husband would benefit from me reading the book. I think that speaks for it self.
Thanks Cheryle!
Can't wait to finish the book.
Julian, hum, let me see. Why do I love him? Here is a man who had a rough childhood and as an adult had let a secretive, lonely life full of dangerous work. He never thought he would find a woman who loved him, be a father and own a house with a white picket fence. When he did finally find them, he knew he was in heaven. Not to mention he is a fantastic lover! *BEG*
Hey Pamela you know I have read Hard Evidence and loved Julian. He's a tortured man a good man with a horrible past that he's trying his best to overcome and to live above. What's not to love about that it's admirable and shows tremendous courage and strength. He's also very caring and tender even though he is a hard man he is gentle with Tessa in so many ways. And thoughtful of her feelings ie when he bought her the gourmet coffee machine because he knew how much she loved her coffee and the little plant that was so sweet and thoughtful and something most men wouldn't even think of. Now all that plus he's just awesome in the bedroom and the shower holy steam up the shower batman! LOL. *fans self just remembering* He truly was an awesome awesome character and I'm so glad he's going to make an appearence so we can see his sexy self again in Unlawful Contact! ;)
Hey Pamela I have read Hard Evidence as well and Julian is oh so yummy. I love how much he cares about Tessa he has a protective streak a mile long and that is just oh so sexy. He is tough and courageous and just an all around good man. The kind of man any woman would want to wake up to each morning.
What, Debbie D? You haven't read it? LOL! I know how it is to be buried under a TBR list, and RBL is probably the best place to acquire that particular problem. No worries, lass! You're entered in the contest.
Ronlyn, how did you and your sister come from the same womb? I'm 5-10, and, yes, I've met you. You're itsy! OK, so Morgan is entered in the contest for an autographed copy of Hard Evidence and you're entered in the contest for the hard cover version. And I love what you said about Julian. So true! His own work horrifies him — the things he has to pretend to do to get to the bad guys. The fact that he does it shows how strong he is and how much he hates men who do the things they do.
Welcome, Elli! Cheryle is a sweetheart, isn't she? And thanks for coming to my blog! You are entered into the contest. I'm glad you're enjoying Extreme Exposure. Hopefully, you'll enjoy Tessa and Julian's story, too. Yes, there is a hot shower scene, but when you and your hubby try it out, do be careful. As Ronlyn can attest, tubs can be slippery leading to unusual injuries and trips to the ER.
Debbie H., those are all reasons I love Julian too. (Yes, I know he's my character, but he feels real to me, not like someone I made up.) The white-picket fence. *sigh* You're entered into the contest.
Hi, JennJ — Yes, he has a few pretty cool scenes in Unlawful, more than just cameos. He was a tough character for me to leave behind. I was so happy to write him into the story! You're entered.
Hi, Cheryle — Thanks for sending Elli in. And, yes, Julian is protective to a fault. I just love that in a man. Can't say I've really experienced it, but I love it just the same. LOL! My future husband — the man I haven't met yet — will be just as protective. ;-) You're entered in the contest.
Thanks, all! I'll see who else is here tomorrow, and then we'll do a drawing tomorrow in the afternoon.
XOXOX,
P.C.
Yeah, but my HC isn't SIGNED!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW, how cool is this. I actually got a real reply from a real Author.
I'll take the warning and we'll be careful. Now I can't wait to read it. Thanks!
You're right, Aimee. Yours isn't signed. So I guess this contest has something for you, too. LOL!
Elli, yep, I always answer — okay, so sometimes I'm slow. But, yes, I really do answer. How far have you come through Extreme Exposure. Some of these chicks went on the Extreme Exposure tour with me this summer to see the places (and, yes, even the people) in the story.
And, BTW, Ronlyn's description of her shower accident is posted somewhere below under "Your Favorite Scene," I think... Pretty funny, but we're all glad Ronlyn and her DH survived. LOL!
Winners to be announced later today.
I haven't read Hard Evidence yet. Actually the only book I HAVE read is Ride the Fire, which I promptly demanded that my Mom read. She did...and bought Surrender, Carnal Gift and Sweet Release....woo-hoo!
I just finished Extreme Exposure.
I started it yesterday and could not put it down. Thanks Cheryle, now I need to play catch up with my house work.
The book was great, I absolutely loved it. Can't wait to read the next book.
You went on tour and there is a real Reece out there? OMG...
Hi, Mollie — Gosh, you sound like a one-woman promotion! I’m so glad you liked Ride the Fire, in some ways my most personal novel, and that your mother enjoyed it enough to give the others a try. But, hey, girl, it’s time we got you caught up, no? Untamed, the sequel to Surrender, will be out a year from Tuesday and Unlawful Contact will be out on April 1.
Elli, there’s also a real polluting cement plant, a real polluted pond, a real whistleblower, a real Legislative Audit Committee, & etc. Some reader-friends (LibBAY, KrisTAY, SueZAY, my sweet gangstas, how should I describe you?) flew in to visit me this past summer, and I took them around to see the places, people and things that inspired my books. Sue called it “The Pamela Clare Reality Tour.” LOL! I’m an investigative journalist by profession and draw on real-life investigations for the stories.
Hi Pamela,
I haven't read HE yet either... even though you and Kristi told me he's inspired by our Jellybean *Wink wink* Tha thought alone is enough to get me going.... LOL
Sara AKA The GOP
I am so excited! Thank you Pamela!!!
Congrats Cheryl, Elli, and Sara!
It's a great book you will love it.
Congrats to the winners!
I did go on the "Pamela Clare Reality Tour" and it was great. I will be coming back there for another tour as soon as I can.
One thing that I learned is that Pamela puts soooo much of her personal experiences in her books. (And she has had some really amazing life altering experiences) I really respect her an an author (& and I love the hell out of her as a friend!!!!)
I hope that you all enjoy your prizes and make sure that you pass her name on to all of your friends.
Congrats to all the winners!
~How do I love Julian...let me count the ways.~ I think what makes Julian such a facinating person is that he not only has an attractive visage -in a roughened, square-jawed sexy biker kinda way- but a tender-hearted soul as well. The way he interacts with Tessa is so contrasting to the veneer he has constructed to the world by way of his difficult upbringing and chosen profession. His life is hard (as well as his body-in more than one place *wink*), but the dedication to his work unintentionally attracts Tessa to him in the most primal way. How be it a big hulky handsome semi-cop brings a stressed out news reporter who's life in just been turned upside down a dainty houseplant? Utterly charming! I may be making absolutly no sense whatsoever....but it is those opposites in his character that make a man like Julian "the Dark-angel" Darcangelo a hunka-hunka burnin' love.
YAY !!!!!!!!!!
I just got the book!!!I'm so excited!!! Thank you so much, I can't wait to read it.
I'll be back to let you know what I think about Julian.
THANK YOU!
