I started my writing career as a columnist and investigative reporter and eventually became the first woman editor of two different papers. Along the way, my team and I won numerous state and several national awards, including the National Journalism Award for Public Service. In 2011, I was awarded the Keeper of the Flame Lifetime Achievement Award for Journalism. Now I write historical romance and contemporary romantic suspense.

Untamed news
When you start seeing these, you'll know Untamed has hit the shelves.
Thanks to Sybil from TGTBTU, I learned today — or was it yesterday? — that Untamed is slated for an October 28 release. Sybil always seems to know more about what my publishers have in mind for me than I do, and yesterday she forwarded me an email from Erin, the sweetheart who does publicity for Leisure Books, that contained this information.
So it's not November, like I thought, it's October 28.
And in other Untamed news... the novel is done! I mailed off everything except the epilogue, which is not written, to New York yesterday.
This weekend, I will write the epilogue and email that in, and then I will officially be completely done.
In other news:
Ben graduated from high school on Saturday. It was really wonderful to watch him get his diploma. He graduated with honors with one of the top 10 GPAs in a graduating class of 504 kids. On the Thursday night before graduation, the school held its award ceremony, where he received an Outstanding Scholar award for his GPA, as well as a scholarship for being the top language arts student ("superb writer," the presenter said). But most wonderful of all, he was named to the Knights of the Round Table, the highest honor his school gives out.
To be a Knight of the Round Table, a student must be nominated by at least three teachers and survive three rounds of discussion and faculty voting. Of the 504 kids in his class, only 13 made Knights of the Round Table, and he was one of them. Of course, he was the last one to be named, so I'd pretty much assumed he didn't get it. When they said his name, I gasped so loudly that people five rows up turned around. And I was so stunned I didn't even cry. Those of you who know me can attest that this is extreme.
So please forgive me for being absent. Between car crashes, doctor's visits, insurance hassles, work at the paper, awards ceremonies, out of town guests and graduation, I've been a bit busy lately.
I'm hoping things will calm down so that I can get the I-Team Trivia game up and running!
Thanks to all of you for your emails and cards and messages regarding Ben and the car crash. Your support made all the difference! There were days when a friendly email kept me sane. You rock!

Thanks, Bo. Yes, he is healing up very fast. He's got a big gash on his leg still and plenty of bruises. But the worst damage was on his legs, where you can't see it in this photo. The scars on his collar bone are also hidden.
As for cutting... I guarantee you it's going to be cut. GUARANTEE. My editor promised not to cut anything that would hurt the flow of the story. I'm trying not to think about it.
I did write the lyrics for "The Ballad of Morgan MacKinnon." Maybe I can soothe disgruntled FOPs with that...
Great news. What a package: smart, cute, funny, considerate. All around great kid.
Is he excited for college?
OCTOBER 28! Exactly 5 months (give or take). I'll have to pencil in my calendar to re-read Surrender the week before so I am in the right frame of mind.
Kudos to Ben (and you) for making it thru graduation, etc. I know you are super proud of him.
Can't wait for the contests.

It is so good to see his handsome face. I'm so beyond glad he is still with us. Major pat on the back and kiss on the cheek for his awards, but then I expected it seeing who his mom is!!! You have done an excellent job with both of your boys.
I am marking the date for UTAMED on my calendar and will be at the doors of the store impatiently waiting for them to open. LOL

Hi, Karen — Why, I think you're right about all of those qualities! LOL! Then again, I'm very, very biased. Yes, he's getting excited. We were talking about it this morning on the way into town — about how he's going to need a different wardrobe to live in NY, where it actually gets cold and stays cold in the winter. We have -15-degree nights, but they're few and far between.

If you reread Surrender you'll be in Ranger mode for sure. And Untamed picks up about a week after Surrender ends. The prologue is set during the first book at the first battle of Ticonderoga. Only this time we're inside the French fort with Amalie, the heroine. You have a great Thursday, too!
Hi, Cheryle — Yes, I am. I'm probably a drag to be around now because given the slightest chance I prattle about my kid. :-) I certainly hope you enjoy Untamed. I really don't want anyone who loved the first book to be disappointed by this one.
Aw, thanks, Debbie! You're so sweet! I adore the heck out of him, for sure. And, you know, when he was up there on that stage, I kept thinking how lucky I was to still have him and how lucky he was to have reached this moment in time. I did cry, but not nearly as much as I expected to, and I think the car accident is why. I was in a different place emotionally than I would have been had he not been in the crash. There was an element of real gratitude to see him walking across the stage, not just that bittersweet "my baby is grown up" feeling.

I'm so happy for you that Untamed will be out sooner than expected, folks are going to crap when they read it, they are going to love it so much!
Congrats to Ben! So many kids don't finish highschool these days that it just makes me so proud of those who do, and of the parents who stick it out!
I've been really SUPER busy, but I'm getting your mail out this Monday come heck-or-high-water!
