Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.
A hero barely holding on…
Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.
The woman who won’t let him fall…
Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

Why Gabe is sexy
This is what I have in mind when I think Gabe Rossiter, my hero in Naked Edge. I figured that since I tortured you with Marc, I should torture you with Gabe, as well.
I grew up in a family of rock and mountain climbers, spending most every weekend of my childhood in the mountains watching guys get vertical. I even did some climbing myself, both alpine and rock. I never got into it the way my dad and brothers have, and, after falling 40 feet off Mount Ida and getting my free chopper ride to the trauma center, decided my feet belong on the ground, thankyouverymuch!
But I'm guessing not many of you have watched people rock climb and can't quite visualize what Gabe spends his time doing. I thought I'd share these intense (and sexy) videos so that you'd gain some appreciation for what it means to be a rock jock.
This one features a climber doing a traverse. He's not high off the ground, but it's hard to be upside down like that for long. Be warned, the song playing in the background is full of profanity. You might want to mute your 'puter and just watch...
This one shows a guy doing some crazy free-soloing high above deep water. If he fell, he might live. Then again, when you hit water hard, it's like hitting concrete.
There are other climbing videos on that site, if you want to watch them.
Have a great week!

Wow - not only a sexy picture, but great videos too! As a 'feet firmly on the ground' kind of girl myself, I can sit comfortably at home and watch in awe at people who can climb like that. Thanks for the early insight into Gabe, even if it means getting that much more impatient to learn more about him :)
I cannot wait to get my greedy little hands on Naked Edge. EEee. So impatient.
Hello!!
Cannot wait to read Naked Edge. Yummy. And while we're at it... still waiting impatiently for Untamed also...
Now, I've spent some time scrambling over rocks and such, but THAT is NUTS! LOL.
Hope you're doing well babe and having a great summer.
Hi, Haleigh — One of my outdoor writers, an avid mountain biker and hardcore skier, sent me the link. All I could do was sit here and drool. I watch a fair amount of climbing videos, mostly mountain climbing, and I'm always amazed by what people can get their bodies to do. I simply have no desire to try it myself, at least not outside the rock gym.
Hi, Limecello! So great to see you here. I'm glad you're excited. I'll be excited when I'm done writing the darned thing. LOL!
Hi, Lori — Thanks so much! I'm so glad to know you're looking forward to them. After 2007, when I didn't have a single thing out, it feels good to have books coming out again!
Hey, Ronlyn! Yes, NUTS is the word. LOL! I think I'll put my dad and/or brother in the hot seat and have them answer this simple question: What the hell? Gravity is a bitch, baby. I know because I personally tested it!!!!
OH, and guess what today is? Today is the 14th anniversary of the day I fell climbing. How apropos that we're talking about this.
Well, all I can say is Happy Anniversary of you still being with us. I remember you showing me the mountain and the area of the chopper liftoff while we were in Dallas at RWA.
Fantastic image of Gabe! Yummy! And like all the rest of the ladies, I cannot wait to get my hands on NAKED EDGE!!!
The first thing I thought of when I saw the climbers was,"What hot, sweaty, muscled bodies they have". BEG
*sigh* first Marc, & now Gabe... I really like your taste in men..........
Debbie H, you're right! They have hot, sweaty, muscled bodies. And not bulky muscle, but nicely shaped, lean muscle. Yum! I'm thinking of pulling a Holly and taking a lawn chair to Eldorado Canyon State Park. Then I can just sit back and watch the guys climb. Almost as good as watching shirtless hunks paint trim. ;-) And thanks for the Happy Anniversary wishes! I think I did show you a photo.
Hi, Debbie D — Thanks! I'm glad you approve. ;-)
Ohhh, PC, that sounds like a great idea. Sit back, with your shades on and watch the guys. Maybe take your camera and take pics. They might pose for you!
Hi Pamela I cant wait to read the new book when it is out and the one you're sending and its ok I know your busy, the 100 pages you was talking about is there a way to read them or are they in another book I have been trying to get the video to open but having trouble my computer is slow but I have watched rock climbing on the tv and my boss does some himself he has showed us some pics I hope you have a greet week take care Hi everyone I hope everyone has a great week
well thanks for that. very hot man. cant wait for the book
kh
LOL, Debbie! I think once they knew what I was doing — ogling them — they might strut a bit. Actually, Eldo is a big place. But I should go and get some pics of Redgarden Wall and The Naked Edge, which is the climb Gabe is on when he sees/hears Kat fall.
Tena, those 100 pages are lost forever, really. They're only in the original document, which I still have. They didn't cut whole chapters or anything, just paragraphs here and there, a few odd scenes, a few lines from every page. So it's nothing I can post. I wish! Sorry the links didn't work for you. Rock climbing on TV? I'm glad my dad and brothers haven't discovered that. RTF is on its way to you.
Thanks, Kat H. And you're welcome. :-)
I think I just drooled into my coffee,LOL.
I've seen ppl climbing before & all I can think (like the pessimist I am,LOL) is 'What if something breaks?!?!?' I've seen those crazy little tent/bed things pitched right off the side of the walls in Zion Park, just hanging out into space, and I think 'Like hell I would be able to sleep!' I can understand the thrill of it,though,if it's like an adrenaline junkie thing. We had Brodie try an indoor rock wall a few weeks ago,but he wussed out less than ten feet up.I was okay with that,LOL.
Gabe will be yummy,of course! I am grinning in greedy anticipation, thinking of all the details to come.
MEOWWWWWWW he is HAWT girl! Kat is a lucky girl lol! ;)
OMS those dudes are crazy I would so never do that whewwwwwwww they must have a deathwish.
HUGS and can't wait to see more of Gabe!
I wish I could show you all the climb Gabe is on in the prologue. Must find a way! That's where I got the name of the book, of course — The Naked Edge, a 5.11.c route on Redgarden Wall that is 600 feet in the air...
Bo, Utah must be a lot like Colorado, with outdoors enthusiasts everywhere. I grew up with it, so it's pretty normal, but when you think about it, it's nuts. LOL! I remember piles of climbing gear in the middle of our living room floor and my dad and other guys doing chin-ups — with their fingertips. My dad also had devices that he would squeeze to strengthen his hands. "Rack" in our house means "supply of climbing gadgets" like carabiners and cams and petons and such. LOL on the drool in the coffee. And, Bo, I do hope to torture you with those yummy details. In the niiiicest way, of course. :-)
Jenn, you would be amazed at the nutty stuff people do here. Base jumping. Paragliding off cliffs. I think they think they won't die or maybe they have to feel like they might die in order to feel alive. Gabe, on the other hand, does have something of a death wish...
Pamela
(Boy it was hard to get this posted dingy me forgot my password) :-( I guess that is part of being a writer you write all your words down but have to cut some of them out in order to fit it to be the most wonderful story that it becomes as it hits the stand and they are, I'm still working on mine im doing a online class a blog site that an author is doing it is fun Im learning alot about the forms of writing cant't wait to see what is next take care and have a good day
