Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.
A hero barely holding on…
Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.
The woman who won’t let him fall…
Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

Untamed is out!
Finally, finally, Untamed is out! It's been a long time since March 2006 when Surrender first introduced you to Iain, Morgan, Connor and the Rangers. And, believe me, sometimes it felt like I would never get the time to finish Morgan's story. But here we are. I hope you'll feel the story was worth the wait.
To celebrate, I am giving away a very special prize: a Colonial-style stoneware candleholder that I brought back from Rogers Island itself. That's Ranger Island for those of you know know the series. The Rogers Island Visitor Center stands probably a half a football field away from the site of the Ranger encampment, where Iain, Morgan, Connor and their men lived in wee cabins while not on scouting missions for the British. So this is a prize from Ranger Country.
The candle holder looks a lot like this but with a little loop for your finger.
And it comes with a signed copy of Untamed.
All you have to do is post a comment to this blog to be entered for the drawing.
But before go any further, I want to announce the winner of this weekend's contest: EVA won a signed copy of Untamed! Congrats, Eva! Email your snail address to [my name]@earthlink.net, and I'll get it in the mail to you!
If you're new to my blog, you'll find lots of excerpts from Untamed below and in the archives, together with extras from my trip to New York to the sites where the story is set. My website has downloadable wallpaper and "The Ballad of Morgan MacKinnon," which Dougie wrote in honor of Morgan.
Later this week we'll be giving away other prizes, including year-long memberships to The Friends of Rogers Island at the "camp follower" level, a copy of The Last of the Mohicans director's cut and so on...
So, tell me, if you've read either of the books in this series, did you like seeing Highlanders in the New World? If you haven't read the books yet, what interests you about about?

Congratulations Pamela on the release of Untamed, I am sure it will be a fantastic success!
Congratulations Eva on the win!
I do like seeing the highlanders in the New World and how they adjust to being out of their natural habitat! It creates a different spin on things and makes them interesting!
Congrats Pamela !!
I so enjoy your stories
Karen
I love your Highlanders Pam. (Of course you know that.) the struggle in the New World, with a twist of Highlander "magic" for lack of a better word.
So...I'm telling everyone who happens to see my wallpaper that it's my boyfriend...you'll confirm that if asked, right?!?!?
I'm wishing you HUGE success with "Untamed"...it's a ROCKIN' BOOK, and I LOVED IT!!!
HUGS...and CONRATULATIONS on Release Day!!! Heather
Sorry for spelling CONGRATULATIONS wrong! I swear...I CAN spell correctly!!! :)
Heather
I want to congratulate you also on the release of Untamed. I can't wait to read it. I had only read your I-Team books and never any of your historicals. After I read Surrender I was hooked! One of my favorite parts is the brogue. Makes me want to go to Scotland. What I love also is how you wrote a story but it is also based on fact.
Just a quick question, why do I have to register with google each time I want to post? Can anyone help me?
CONGRATS on the release of UNTAMED!
And congrats to Eva on her win!
YES I so love seeing Highlanders in the new world. I love Highlanders no matter where they appear lass AYE! ;)
Congratulations on your release, Pamela! I can't wait to pick up a copy. It sounds great!
Have a good one!
jan
Oh, my Pamela,
I've waited SO long for this book and it and Morgan do NOT disappoint!
I found it a day early at my local grocery and am nearly through with it. (It's been torture trying not to just read and get my last GH entry done!)
Morgan is everything a hero should be! And the historical detail, the description of life during that period in our history. So MASTERFULLY done!
THere is only one question left unanswered...when is Conners story going to be ready :-)
I can't say no to highlanders in any setting. Really enjoyed reading Surrender and have Untamed on my Christmas wish list already.
I have a fondness for Highlanders in general, so I do like Highlanders in the New World.
I am so happy that Untamed is out now. I am going to the bookstore tomorrow to pick up my copy. Congrats on the release!
Hi, Amanda — Thanks so much! And I think that's something I liked, too — that having them here opened the landscape for doing new things with Highlanders. Plus, they did come here...
Hi, Karen — You're such a sweetheart! Thanks.
Hi, Ronlyn — Yep, I know that. And I adore you for it. :-) And I like that — Highlander "magic." A certain je ne sais quoi, right? (Or as Dr. Evil would say, "A certain 'I don't know what.'")
Heather, you make me laugh! Yes, if anyone asks, I will confirm that the man on the cover is your boyfriend. LOL! Just funnel the emails my way. And dinnae fash yoursel' o'er the spellin'.
Zeek, good for you! That's the spirit! When our friends win, call them names and try again! LOL! OK, you're in! Good luck!
Wow, Judy, I'm excited that you've enjoyed both the I-Team series stories and now the historicals. I've learned in the past few weeks that my historicals are the first that they've ever read and that they read them simply because they liked the I-Team books. I really love that.
As for Google... I think you can click Anonymous and post without registering. Do you have a Gmail account through Google? If so, then maybe you're logging out between posts or in your Gmail account. If not... wow, I'm stumped!
Do you see this? It's a run of "J" names: Judy, Jenn, Jan and Joan! Did you ladies plan this?
I didn't mean to post just then... Oopsey.
Thank you, Jenn. And, yes, I definitely get the idea that you'll take those Highlanders wherever you find them. Not that I blame you really...
Hi, Jan! Welcome! And thanks! I hope you're able to find it and that you enjoy it!
(((Joan!))) It's been ages (or feels that way). I still have your MS and still think about it and how I want to read it. Thanks so much for popping in! I'm so happy to hear that you've enjoyed Morgan and Amalie's story so far. I hope the ending satisfies!
You know, that's not the first time this week someone has asked me that question. I can't tell you how it makes me feel when someone does. On the one hand I'm so happy and rather amazed that they want to read another one of my books. Woohoo! On the other hand, each one take so much work that I think, "Eeeek!" I'm always so far behind!
Hi, Cathy — Thanks for stopping in and joining us! I hope Santa is very kind to you this year and brings you Untamed. Good luck in the contest!
Thanks so much, Raven! I really appreciate the good wishes! I hope you enjoy the story!
I know I'm a little late chiming in! Had Ahava and Malachi most of the day!!!
Congrats on the release of UNTAMED!!! I have to go get my copy tomorrow.
I LOVE Highlanders, period!! Your's especially! *BEG*
Congratulations on the Release! My poor bookstore did not get my copy yesterday but they are on the ball and I should have it soon! They just need to hurry up cause I don't want to wait much longer LOL!
On the other hand, each one take so much work that I think, "Eeeek!" I'm always so far behind!
Hey, it was your imagination that came up with THREE brothers...and actually...why not the WHOLE CLAN!!!!
Yeah, that's the ticket!!! :-)
(((hugs))) right back at ya!
I want to congratulate you also on the release of Untamed. I can't wait to read it. I loved Surrender I cant wait to here about the brothers to see what has happen since the marriage and what is going on with the two brothers still fighting
congrats Pamela for the book out I cant wait to read it I hope to go and get it soon taking care of a 2month baby is hard and i dont get to read alot but I hope to soon take care
Cathy — YOU ARE THE WINNER! I'm so happy for you. I bought this candle holder just for this contest right there on Rogers Island (Ranger Island), where Morgan and Iain and Connor live with their men. To me, it's very special. I hope you enjoy it and the story!
Those of you who didn't win... Stay tuned. As soon as I get some coffee in my bloodstream, I'm posting the next contest!
Joan, you crack me up! I can see it now: Iain, Morgan, Connor, Angus, Jamie, Hugh, Alpin, Bruce, Donal, Alastair, Bothan, Andrew, Blane, Callum, Brodie, Erroll and fourteen other MacKinnon men... LOL! I guess I could bring some cousins over or something. And then there's the inevitable Irish cousins.
Thanks so much, Tena! I hope you enjoy the story. :-)
Shirley, it is hard to do anything with a 2-month-old baby. But they do grow quickly. You can stockpile books and read later. Treasure these weeks. A year from now, your baby will have grown so much. Those precious newborn days will be long behind you.
Thanks, everyone! Now on to the next contest. Do we need an excerpt for this one?
You know what is really annoying me? I can't find Untamed at any book store around (I work and live near Barnes & Nobles and can get to Borders if I have to). Both stores have to order it for me. I roamed their stores and they don't have ANY of your books. I was wanting to read it ASAP.
I like your historical books, as I am working on my family tree right now and it gives me an idea of how the people were way back then.
