Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.
A hero barely holding on…
Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.
The woman who won’t let him fall…
Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

After the Epilogue — Saturday's spoiler chat
Howdy!
Sorry to have vanished. I typically like to reply to each and every one of you, but this week has been a madhouse. I might still get a chance to go back to my previous post and reply. If not, please know that I’ve read your posts and really appreciate them.
Also, please know that if you’ve sent me e-mail, I'm behind on that, too.
First the news: I have a senator willing to carry the bill about the shackling of inmates in labor. I’m meeting with her on Tuesday afternoon to help write it. Now, that’s something I've never done before. Draft a bill. OK, sure.
Hmm... Probably needs some work.
“And there shall be cookies and milk for all at precisely 3 p.m., followed by nap time. Bedtime stories shall consist of romance novels with heroines who present positive role models for inmates. Sexy man posters shall be posted in all cells so that all female inmates get their recommended daily allowance of man-chest and six-packs. Chocolate shall be included with each evening meal. And there shall be absolutely no shackling of pregnant inmates in labor! Duh! What were you people thinking?”
Some other folks have connected with me hoping to be a part of pushing this forward. But, typically I guess, there are people who want this bill but want it on their own time. As in, “How about we do this next year?”
Call me naïve. Really, call me anything you want. I don’t care. I want to do what I can while I can, not next year. There are inmates who will be having babies this summer whose experience will be different if we pass a bill before the session recesses in May. So I remain undeterred.
Less interesting news: I want a new back! I‘m taking steroids and narcotics, and every day is an exercise in endurance. I am not enjoying this. Obviously, as I'm whining about it in public.
And now on to the fun stuff!
On Saturday, I’m inviting any of you who’ve read Naked Edge and want to talk about it — but don’t want to spoil it for your friends — to join me for an After the Epilogue chat where you don’t have to worry about spoilers.
Here’s how it will work:
I will put up a new blog post tomorrow at about 7 Eastern/6 Central/5 Mountain/4 Pacific time right here on this blog with a link to a Chatzy chatroom. These are just chatrooms you can create and sign into on Chatzy.com. Registration is minimal.
You’ll just follow that link to the chat, register and pop in.
The chat itself will begin at 9 E/8 C/ 7 M/ 6 P and continue as long as you like. This is for you, and I want it to be fun for you.
During the chat, I'll take down the names of participants and someone will win a signed copy of Naked Edge, plus a $25 gift card to Borders.
Spread the word. Bring your friends.
I’ll be having another one in a couple of weeks because there are people who want to participate but who can’t.
If you have questions, post them here or e-mail me: pamelaclare @ earthlink.net (remove spaces). Also, feel free to propose discussion topics, but if please be careful not to post spoilers or at least to warn people before you do.
This is the first time I’ve done anything like this, so I’m very excited!
See you tomorrow night!

First off that is awesome about the bill honey and you getting to help write it!!! I'm so proud for you and of you! I don't blame you a bit that's not something that should be put on hold for gosh sakes I'll help but next year...what the heck! You go girl I know you will do an amazing job. :)
I'm so sorry to hear you have been in so much pain. I am praying for you and hope you get some ease soon dear! Big hugs.
Girl God willing I will be there with bells on for the chat!
Hi, Jenn — Thanks for your prayers. I really appreciate them.
Yeah, I just don't get the 'let's wait' attitude. There's so much cynicism and game-playing in politics, and it really turns me off.
I'll listen for bells tomorrow evening. :-)
Oh, and P.S. I got my hair straightened today. It will only last till it gets wet, but it really looks different! I wish I had my camera. I took some photos with my cell phone, but I can't get them off of it. So...
It's so fun! I've always wanted straight hair, and now I have it. I feel like I belong now. LOL!
Oh, and BTW... the reason I'm awake: steroids + Percocet = not sleeping.
So awesome about the bill. I had my students reading MLK's Letters from a Birmingham Jail last week, and there's a section on timeliness, how everyone kept telling him to wait. Wait till next year or wait for a different administration or wait till things were less volatile. His response was that when you see an injustice, the time to correct it is always right now.
I'm sure you already knew that, but take a lesson from the master -- don't let anyone tell you to wait!
Hope you get some relief from your back (and some sleep!) soon!
I am so proud of you! You have done more in the last few months for women, than has been done in years.
I feel your back is protesting all the stress you have been feeling for the last few months and year. I know you have had injuries to it, but our body will bring stress out in various places and your back is the target at the moment. Sorry sweetie.
I am going on an ancestry hunt at the library and I will be joining you tonight. I can hardly wait!
Hugs
Hi Pamela, I'm so sorry your back is giving you so much grief. Hope you feel better soon. And BIG congrats about finding a senator!
I did some searching and couldn't find any info about Canadian inmates being shackled during labor, but I did find an article from 2008 about a woman being shackled to her bed after giving birth. Her child was taken and put in foster care, with absolutely no consultation.
Okay. Maybe this was the best decision for the child's welfare. To my mind the best interests of the child have to come first, but surely the whole situation could have been handled with more humanity. People who make poor choices and end up in prison might necessarily have to give up some rights, but they are still people, though most have been treated like trash since childhood. This article made me furious!
P.S. I'll be there tonight, at least at the beginning - it's late for me, so I may turn into a gourd or something else green and warty before it's over.
Wow! First of all, awesome about the bill Pamela! That's really cool. I hope it pulls through because women, even though they've commited a crime or not, don't deserve to give birth like that. It's just wrong. Good luck!!!
Sorry about your back, I hope you get better.
Guess what I picked up in the post office last night!? Yep! It's NAKED EDGE! Thank you so much for that again. I was actually suppose to get it Wed. but no one was here when the mailman came. Then he came back Thur. and he missed us again. LOL! So I just picked it up there. I'm readin' it right now and lovin' it so far. Gonna finnish it today cause there is no way I am missing that chat ;D
BTW: I just saw something in the back. And no, I did not look at the ending. I just usually check the little excerpt they have in there, cause I remember when I was reading Reece's story, it had HARD EVIDENCE in it. And when I was reading Marc's story, it had NAKED EDGE on the back. So yeah. And guess I found! NATALIE/ZAC'S story!!!! ;D I was squeling like a little girl! And I'm already lovin' Zac from the awesome excerpt. And that last line, I'm guessing he knew her before? I can't wait for this one, and the chat tomorrow.
Ok, gonna go read now.
Thanks for the book again! Take Care! God Bless! and Good Luck!
-Ronna ;D
*I mean the chat today. ;D
Hi Pamela
Huge congrats on the bill.
I'm so sorry you're feeling such pain. I hope it's better soon.
I just finished NE yesterday. It is unbelievably magical. I have a thing for native characters & romances etc. I love the customs, beliefs, symbolisms, etc. This book is just something else. Talk to you tonight if you're up to it.
