Holding On (Colorado High Country #6) —
The Colorado High Country series returns with Conrad and Kenzie's story.
A hero barely holding on…
Harrison Conrad returned to Scarlet Springs from Nepal, the sole survivor of a freak accident on Mt. Everest. Shattered and grieving for his friends, he vows never to climb again and retreats into a bottle of whiskey—until Kenzie Morgan shows up at his door with a tiny puppy asking for his help. He’s the last person in the world she should ask to foster this little furball. He’s barely capable of managing his own life right now, let alone caring for a helpless, adorable, fluffy puppy. But Conrad has always had a thing for Kenzie with her bright smile and sweet curves. One look into her pleading blue eyes, and he can’t say no.
The woman who won’t let him fall…
Kenzie Morgan’s life went to the dogs years ago. A successful search dog trainer and kennel owner, she gets her fill of adventure volunteering for the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. The only thing missing from her busy life is love. It’s not easy finding Mr. Right in a small mountain town, especially when she’s unwilling to date climbers. She long ago swore never again to fall for a guy who might one day leave her for a rock. When Conrad returns from a climbing trip haunted by the catastrophe that killed his best friend, Kenzie can see he’s hurting and wants to help. She just might have the perfect way to bring him back to the world of the living. But friendship quickly turns into something more—and now she’s risking her heart to heal his.

Manatee Monday?!?
Sorry again to be gone for so long. Life is not slowing down one iota. But I did want to share a quick laugh.
Today was dedicated to helping my younger son, Benjamin, find a car to buy. It did not go well. Used car salesmen can be scumbags. Fortunately, Benjamin did a lot of research into how to buy a car and did not get taken. But the process of standing up for himself brought out one guy’s inner jerk (not so deeply hidden, it turns out). And so that wasn't fun.
But we turned it into an evening with my folks, who moved from a town 360 miles away on the other side of the mountains to a little town about 35 minutes away.
In the course of the evening, I told my parents how this past Man-Titty Monday several of you thought my dad's ritual of calling my mom from the summit of the mountains he climbed (and he has climbed all but two of the 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado as well as big peaks in other states) was touching. We talked about this for a few minutes, and then my mom wanted to know why I called my blog entry “Mantee Monday.”
I just about died laughing.
Manatee Monday?!?!?
I had to pull out my laptop and show her and my father what I meant. Meanwhile, Benjamin was still howling with laughter.
Not Manatee Monday, though Manatees are wonderful (and I hope they won't be hurt by BP’s terrible spill). It’s MAN-TITTY Monday.
A bit of a difference there.
Our quest to find a car failed. Sadness! Tomorrow I must spend the day writing, so we won’t be searching again this weekend.
Have a lovely weekend everyone! I hope to have photos of my garden soon! It's amazing! My King Arthur delphinium is as tall as I am. (Oh, and since most of you haven't met me in person, I’ll just say that I'm 5-foot-10.)

Morning, Pamela! I'm up early, enjoying a beautiful June morning and having fun with our new dog, who arrived on Wednesday. We've had a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, Chance, for 8 years (For a visual, think Golden Retriever, only smaller and redder), and got a little female, Echo, from the same breeder to keep him company. I've been laughing at their antics all morning.
Manatee Monday? LOL! Good luck with the car hunt, and congrats to Benjy for being a savvy buyer.
Aww, Manatees are beautiful creatures. They make a lovely couple. LOL So were your parents like...."Oh, I see" says mother. Father just looks at you and snorts? I know it's good to have them nearby.
I bet the garden is looking fantastic!
Yes, car dealers can be nasty people. I don't know how some of them sleep at night knowing they screwed someone over. Has Benjy checked with individual owners that are selling? Just be sure to take the car to be checked out before buying it.
Have a wonderful Saturday. Today is Anastasia's 9th (yes, 9th!!) birthday, so I am headed to her party this afternoon.
oh I'm ROLLING!!! That's awesome.
Tell Benji to check out cars.com. That's where we found our new used car. It was really helpful.
YAY for a fruitful garden! Mine is slow going this year. I'm currently battelling the slugs attacking Sammy's strawberries. But, the squash looks like it'll have at least 3-4 pieces of fruit, the peppers are budding, and I already have 2 baby tomatoes. Since I only had 2 tomatoes total last year, I'm counting this as a huge success!
enjoy your weekend
xoxo

O.M.G. I would never, ever, in my wildest most unrestrained moment mention such a thing to my parents let alone within earshot! LOLOLOL
I cannot stop laughing! Sometimes I envy your boldness, other times not so much.
Manatee Monday! ROFLMAO
Hi, Jennie — Congrats on the new member of the family! How fun! Send a photo and I'll post it. :-)
Thanks for the good wishes. Buying a used car is a tricky thing.
Hi, Debbie — Aren't manatees adorable?
My parents took it all with good humor. They laughed quite a bit, actually. I read my entire most recent MTM blog post to them, and they reacted with humor to it.
It is great to have them nearby. My mom is going to be such a wonderful help after the surgery. She's a very skilled registered nurse, so I'll be in good hands.
Hi, Ronlyn — Any luck with those damned slugs?
I mentioned Cars.com to Benjy, and he said it's his new bible. He says he's there all the time. He's also read a lot of consumer articles about how to buy used cars. Thanks for the tip, though.
I need to get a new battery for my digital camera. I want to photograph the flower garden, which is un-freaking-believable right now. And when the veggies come up -- right now the cold-weather veggies are offering a great harvest, while the warm-weather ones are just getting going -- I want to post photos, too.
This could be a record year for you when it comes to tomatoes! LOL!
We've got Navajo corn planted and I'm looking forward to making our own flour from it for tortillas. Of course, we'll probably only get enough for like one batch of tortillas, but it will be fun to make. Now I need a metate to grind the stuff ... :-)
Hi, Rita — Good to see you.
My parents are used to me after all these years.
True story:
I was very little and they took me to the drive-in, counting on my falling asleep. Ryan's Daughter had just come out. I didn't fall asleep, though.
When the English officer and Ryan's daughter started to have sex out in the forest, I asked, "Mommy, what are they doing?"
And my mom answered, "They're going to take a nap together."
And I famously said, "No, they're not. They're going to make love."
At which point I was told to go to sleep.
I was 6.
But they tolerate me. :-)
LOL! A whole other reason to smile come Monday!
It reminds me of a time many years ago when I was out with friends. A song called Dumas Walker began playing(not a song I like, but makes for a funny story). The line is 'Let's all go down to Dumas Walker.' Someone with our group became visibly upset and began muttering about how inappropriate the lyrics were . When I asked what in the world he was ranting about, he said, "Let's all go down and do Ms. Walker?" Almost makes me like country music. :)
ROFL!!!!! Oh that is too funny and how cute are they huh? Love it thanks for the laugh. Bless your mom's heart that was awesome.
So sorry the salesmen were jerks to Benjy tell him chin up and that he's one less jerk closer to the car he was meant to get now!
Big hugs and hope you both have a great rest of the week. :)
Awwww, I love manatees!! And those are two very, very cute ones in the photo. Tell your mom thanks for the laugh!
Good luck with the car hunt. I break out into a sweat just thinking about car shopping.
Diane :)
